MLD Architects has over thirty years of experience in roofing, waterproofing, building envelope, and renovation design. When the firm was established in 1979, known then as C. Trent Manausa, Inc. the firm chose to specialize in forensic architecture, the diagnosis and solving of building problems.

Over the years the firm has earned an excellent reputation for diagnosing roof and water intrusion problems and offering solutions to these problems. These solutions typically include a holistic approach and often involve exterior envelope waterproofing and coating systems. The firm’s president and owner, Mr. Randy Lewis, is a recognized roofing and waterproofing systems expert, and the firm has had roofing articles published in the Florida AIA magazine and the Florida Roofers magazine. Our extensive experience with forensic architecture has led to the firm offering expert testimony in court litigation.

In addition to roofing and water intrusion experience, MLD Architects has designed an international headquarters building, a health and fitness center for a hospital, an award winning national guard armory, and renovated/rehabilitated numerous historical structures, for which we have received historic design awards. MLD has been selected as continuing area contract architects to the United States Postal Service, Florida Department of Management Services, Florida State University, Florida A&M University, Florida Department of Health, Florida Department of Children and Families, Department of Military Affairs, and the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice for projects in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, and Maryland. We have completed over 400 roofing and waterproofing projects in Florida alone. We have designed post office expansions, retail stores, roof systems and corrected water intrusion problems at numerous postal facilities throughout the southeast including the Fernandina Beach MPO, the Daytona Beach MPO, the Pensacola PD&F, the Jacksonville GMF, VMF and AMF facilities, the Nashville, Tennessee GMF, the Ocean City, Maryland MPO, the Hilton Head, South Carolina MPO, and the Gulf Shores, Alabama MPO. We have conducted hurricane damage surveys with recommendations for correction for the postal service; we have conducted mold and mildew remediation studies.

Our experience also includes consulting architectural services for such structures as the Prime Osborn Convention Center in Jacksonville, the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, the Florida Supreme Court Building, the Florida Governor’s Mansion, the Historic Capitol Building of Florida, the new Capitol Building of Florida, and the House and Senate Office Buildings in Tallahassee.

MLD Architects has a staff of nine, including two registered architects, a registered interior designer/project manager, a roofing and waterproofing project manager graduate architect, three graduate architects who are LEEDS certified, and a graduate interior designer. This staff has worked together for several years, which translates into an architectural firm that knows how to work together to solve problems and complete projects on time and within budget.
